Ed Davey, The UK Energy Minister expressed that compromise should be available towards enhancing energy efficiency 30% by 2030 of which EU members plan to discuss as of next week. The focus for Europe to reach a minimum renewable energy market share of 27% by 2030 has been described by many as a nice compromise from the EU. It means it will be non binding, allowing the UK use of other tech such as controversial carbon capture and storage in order to reach it's carbon goal. Current measures show that the EU is on course to meet energy savings of 19% by 2020. A study by E3Mlab evaluates the development and possible long term scenarios towards the perfect European climate and energy policy until 2030. Earlier this week a chorus of businesses including the likes of Ikea and Kingspan, wrote a letter to Mr David Cameron calling for him to deliver an increasing 40% energy efficiency binding contract. There have recently also been several mayors from Bristol to Aberdeen expressing similar views. Ed Davey said "We are strong supporters of energy efficiency, the questions is, what is the most appropriate way of doing it?" He also added that by having a powerful 2030 energy and climate agreement on the cards would send a solid echo to Russia in relation to Europe's energy affairs, which would loosen the grip Mr Putin currently levers over Europe.
