Following the UN's panel reports, repetitively concluding that if we are going to swerve climate change then we had better switch onto renewable energy rather shortly. Currently the UK only meets 5% by renewables, less than a third of the 15% target set for 2020. WWF UK reports that by 2030 up to 90% of our energy could come from wind, tidal, solar and other sustainable sources, which potentially could provide us with more than than enough energy to serve our needs. In fact they suggest that we could even be in a position to sell our surplus energy into Europe. But how realistic are these targets, more importantly would they ever receive the backing of the government and energy industry? With the so called big six on the edge of their seats over renewables, mainly due to the fact that it will allow a mixture of both small and large scale players to enter the energy market. Providing competition from companies such as Ecotricity and Infinis, ruffling up a few feathers along the way, which can only be a good sign. Concluding that renewables should be at the centre of any low carbon energy future, because it is the only proven low carbon energy generation that is gradually becoming cheaper. With many of us looking for new energy efficient products such as eco electric radiators that offer us precision thermostats to a fraction of a degree and unparalleled controllability helping us save on our energy bills.
