Anti-fracking campaigners have super glued themselves to the entrance way of the Department of Environment. Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Whilst a similar campaign whereby two entrances were blockaded by protesters had been carried out at the offices of iGas which is the UK's biggest shale gas company. Campaigners from Reclaim the Power based in Blackpool claim that the protest is in relation to the 63 redaction's in a Government report released a couple of weeks ago on the potential impact that shale gas exploration might have on the rural communities. Three activists superglued themselves to Defra's main entrance way at 8am in attempted to prevent access, the group suggested that another protester had managed to climb the building and positioned a banner reading "What's to hide Defra? Don't frack with our future." Additional activists wore black duck tape over their mouths. They claim that the chapter covering the impact that drilling might have on house prices has received three proportions cut out. However a government spokesman said "There is no evidence that house prices have been affected in over half a century of oil and gas exploration in the UK or evidence that this would be the case with shale. This government believes that shale has a positive part to play in our future energy mix, providing energy security, driving growth and creating jobs." One campaigner named Lindsay Alderton speaking at the protest says it is "shameful", that the UK goverment is holding back secrets regarding the impacts of shale gas exploration which the general public has a right to know about. She also said: "This morning we are here at Defra to remind them that they work for the public that pays them their wages, and that the public demands to know the facts about fracking censoring is not an acceptable option."
