  • Full competition investigation into UK energy market

The UK energy market has been immensely under the spotlight over the past year, with Ofgem today announcing that the industry is to under go an entire investigation from the Competition and Market Authority. Although this has been on the running since March earlier this year it has only today been made official. But we have to ask the question, what will this mean to the millions of customers right across the UK?

The investigation should ensure that competitions works sympathetically for customers through bringing down prices whilst flurrying improvements in customer service and development. Additionally it should help reinstall long over due confidence for investment into the ene ...

The waters which surround the party island are currently a world heritage site. With politicians, tourist chiefs and conservationists all adamant that the plans to drill in to the sea must be stopped.

Whilst Ibiza is well known for it's party atmosphere, hosting a cluster of world famous clubs and attracting over 600,000 UK citizens each year, Ibiza is in fact also home to two national parks and is considered of such ecological importance that the UN designated the Balearic island and its surrounding waters a world heritage site.

  • At last, switching energy supplier will be quicker and easier

Finally, efforts to provide more control to consumers with their own energy providers and tariffs has been fruitful. From an agreement by the regulator Ofgem and energy suppliers it will now be possible to switch energy providers to just 3 days with a 14 day cooling off period. Which? group recently wrote a letter to treasury officials reflecting growing concerns about expensive generation projects being prioritised over far cheaper and cost-effective choices. This comes only one day after energy regulator Read more ...

  • Energy companies under fire to slash energy bills after dramatic plumpet in wholesale cost

Energy regulator Ofgem claims that the wholesale energy price for electricity and gas are 23% and 38% cheaper in comparison to this time last year. The big six have come under scrutiny from both the regulator and consumer groups to cut energy prices after a dramatic decline in wholesale costs.

It's concerning that even with the plummet in wholesale prices, the big six show no sign of reducing energy bills or even having the courtesy of explaining to customers why they were not doing so?

In a letter to the industry Ofgem added that whilst the UK's energy firms are quick to ...

Earlier today Friends Of The Earth reported that chancellor George Osbourne has in fact handed out £2.7bn in incentives to the big polluters of large oil and gas companies located in the North Sea.

Economics Campaigner at Friends of the Earth David Powell said: "The Chancellor falls over himself to claim renewable energy is expensive, while bending over backwards to offer oil barons massive tax breaks."

So what is going on? With large subsides planned to encourage fracking and ever continuing cuts to subsidies for wind and solar energy farms Mr Osbourne has come under immen ...
